The Open Science Awards of Catalonia recognise, each year and since 2025, the individuals and institutions that promote research that is more transparent, accessible, and open to society. Driven by the Department of Research and Universities, with the cooperation of the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC) and the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i Innovació (FCRI), these awards form part of the Catalan Open Science Strategy, which positions open knowledge as a key of research in the country.

The awards recognise individual careers and institutional initiatives that promote open access to knowledge, the reuse of data ans code according to the FAIR principles, and social participation in research. They include three categories: the Mercè Durfort Award, the Joan Modolell Award and the Montserrat Sebastià Award, paying tribute to prominent figures in Catalan science.

The aim of the awards is to promote science that is carried out with and for society, and recognise those practices that help make scientífic knowledge more open, useful and reusable.
